The Eurovent Product Group ‘Air Handling Units’ re-elected Martin Lenz (TROX) as the group’s Chairperson and Andy Bijmans (Systemair) as its Vice-Chairperson. The election took place during the group’s last meeting in Hinwil. Participants of the Eurovent Product Group ‘Air Handling Units’ (PG-AHU) re-elected Martin Lenz, Head of International Business Development / Head of Research and Pre-Development at TROX GmbH (Germany) as the group’s Chairperson during the group’s recent meeting in Hinwil. Lenz and Bijmans to Chair Eurovent PG-AHU Martin Lenz will continue to be supported by Andy Bijmans, Manager R&D at Systemair (Netherlands) who was also re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the group. Martin and Andy were both initially elected to Chair the group in 2017, due to their broad experience and knowledge in the air handling sector and look forward to continuing the task for the next two years. It deals with air handling units and their components (e.g. air filters, energy recovery components, fans), often in cooperation with the specialist Eurovent Product Groups that cover specific components. The group’s key tasks involve advocating European and national legislative initiatives on this subject, accompanying EN, and ISO and standards, developing industry codes of good practice, and general promotion of the industry.

The requirement to save energy often leads to the installation of larger air handling units, which in turn results in lower airflow velocities. It is, therefore, necessary to change the measurement principle in order to measure even very small volume flows. Another issue often encountered at the installation site is space or the lack of it. This is why development efforts have to aim at products that are fairly easy and safe to install and provide good measurement results. With these goals in mind, TROX has developed a new measurement method and a new type of damper blade, for which a patent application has already been filed. The new damper blade is part of the new VAV terminal units, Type TVE. Design Type TVE VAV terminal units apply a new measurement principle as the volume flow rate is measured not with a probe or sensor, but by means of the damper blade itself. This innovative design allows for a reduction in length and helps to ensure precise measurement results even in the case of unfavorable upstream conditions; with dynamic measurement, this is even independent of the airflow direction.
