PTS Staging Valves Enhance Reliability In Centrifugal Chillers And Heat Pumps

PTS staging valves have been introduced as part of Danfoss’s EXO – Extended Oil-Free program, providing enhanced performance and reliability for both oil and oil-free centrifugal chillers and heat pumps.

These valves operate swiftly, within a span of 5 seconds, to avert compressor surge and maintain consistent system function during both the initiation and cessation phases.

This rapid operation makes them an appropriate choice for essential applications, such as those utilized in data centers, hospitals, and industrial processes.

Preventing Compressor Surge and Faster Startup

Engineered to address the common issue of compressor surge caused by low pressure during startup in centrifugal compressors, PTS valves notably stabilize compressor pressure, minimizing the potential for damage while prolonging system lifespan.

They facilitate a swift connection between discharge and suction through the evaporator, preventing gas recirculation, safeguarding against internal compressor shock, and ensuring quicker startup and better system efficiency.

Ensuring Reliable Shutdown Performance

PTS valves rapidly release pressure to protect bearings and stabilize operation At shutdown, PTS valves promptly release pressure to safeguard compressor bearings and avoid contact with the shaft-bearing, stabilizing operations. As the system slows, these valves cater to critical scenarios of compressor pressure ratios, providing stability. 

In the event of a malfunction or power outage, the discharge valve shut-off, coupled with the swift opening of the staging valve, mitigates compressor pressure efficiently.

Constructed from high-quality materials, PTS staging valves are engineered for durability and low maintenance in oil-free applications. They exhibit wide refrigerant compatibility, accommodating all commonly used refrigerants such as A2L.

PTS valves deliver high flow capacity while maintaining stable pressure Optimized specifically for Danfoss TGx and TTx Turbocor® compressors, PTS valves greatly enhance system stability and reliability.

They are designed to address the most challenging compressor pressure ratios, delivering consistent and energy-efficient performance when paired with Turbocor® compressors.

Benefits Over Traditional Staging Solutions

Compared to conventional solenoid and standard stepper motor valves, PTS valves provide significant benefits, including significant flow capacity without compromising pressure stability and rapid response times, minimizing compressor damage risks. The advanced sealing technology ensures superior tightness, preventing leaks in high-pressure scenarios.

Additionally, the low pressure drop design, connecting discharge to suction via the evaporator, boosts pressure before the discharge check valve opens, thereby protecting the compressor from pressure shocks.

The PTS valves come in three models with KV values ranging from 18 to 38, supporting various system sizes. Complementing the staging valves, the Danfoss portfolio includes ETS expansion valves, controllers, and oil-free ball valves like OFC and OFB, providing OEMs with reliable components for liquid, suction, and discharge lines.
